Artist's Statement

I establish a connection to the world through art. It is pure alchemy, where the elements of nature are manipulated in the pictorial space to create something that transcends the human condition.

Sensitivity towards nature becomes a journey to intimate places, where the enjoyment of simple things permits the discovery of a new world with endless interpretations. Furthermore, this journey is an invitation to go beyond the concepts that lie behind each element, turning every moment into a chance for self-contemplation.

My interest in realistic painting, has led me to research the fields of science, philosophy and history as well as methods and materials employed by the Old Masters; but as I grew as an artist, my goal became more than just capturing an accurate depiction of nature through a skillful craftsmanship.

So, I started to explore the world of symbolism in order to reach for hidden and universal messages in my surroundings. I have a strong interest in how other cultures, especially eastern cultures; construct their symbolic imaginaries and how those are reflected in their art, religion and daily life. I find universal concepts that nurture my creativity and upon which I construct my own ideas using local sources but with universal meanings. Craftsmanship and conceptualization are aspects of equal importance for me, thus I describe my style as symbolic realism since I aim to obtain a correspondence between the sensitive and the spiritual world through painting.

Needless to say that symbolism is where I find the richest source for my paintings since it allows me to enter into an intimate contact with myself and the world and somehow to recover that lost connection with the mysterious side of the universe.
